Plain English
The biggest source of confusion when buying a container, and the part that decides what you pay.
Made one voyage, so it is basically new. Clean, minimal wear, the nicest option.
Best for: Homes, offices, anything customer-facing.
A used container with an average age of 15 years, sealed against weather and pests. Expect dents, dings and surface rust, and it may have undergone previous repairs, but it has solid floors, functioning doors, and secure latches, and it keeps your things dry.
Best for: General storage on a budget. Our most common pick.
A used container that passed inspection and is certified for ocean shipping (it has a CSC plate). Solid and structurally sound.
Best for: Shipping, export, or buyers who want a certified used box.
Every Cargo Worthy container is Wind & Water Tight, but not every Wind & Water Tight container is certified Cargo Worthy. Not sure which fits? Call (636) 348-9560 and we will point you the right way.
Real projects

Delivery & site prep
National sellers hand delivery to whoever is cheapest. We run our own drivers and our own tilt trailer, so we know the roads, the tight driveways, and the soft spring ground.
For a 20ft container we need about a 20ft wide road onto a 10ft wide driveway, plus about 75ft behind the drop spot for the truck to pull out. A 40ft needs more room.
What neighbors say
Recommends STL Containers on Facebook“My family is new to Woodland Lakes. We bought a 20 foot container. Jane in the office was amazing to work with and very thorough in making sure all my questions were answered. Then the driver, Brian, was even more awesome. He was patient with me. He got the container in-between two sets of trees. Leveled the container on the concrete blocks we had (well, mostly level ๐). He had a great sense of humor, too. Our whole experience was fantastic!”

If looks matter (a home, office, or anything customer-facing), a one-trip container is worth it. For general storage on a budget, a wind and water tight used container does the job. We will tell you honestly which makes sense for you.
It means the container is sealed against weather and pests. A wind and water tight container is used, with an average age of 15 years. Expect dents, dings and surface rust, and it may have undergone previous repairs, but it has solid floors, functioning doors, and secure latches, and it keeps your belongings dry.
A one-trip container made a single voyage before coming here, so it is basically new. It is the cleanest, best-looking option with minimal wear.
Cargo worthy is a used container that passed inspection and is certified for ocean shipping (it has a CSC plate). Every cargo worthy container is also wind and water tight, but not every WWT container is certified cargo worthy.
