FAQ
Shipping container questions, answered straight
First time buying a container? Good. Here are honest answers to the questions we hear most. Still stuck? Call (636) 348-9560.
Buying
It depends on the size, the condition, and how far we drive to deliver it, and container prices move with the market. Rather than post a number that could be wrong for you, we give you a free, no-obligation quote with today\’s price and delivery to your ZIP. Call (636) 348-9560 or send a quote request. The number we quote is the number you pay.
If looks matter (a home, office, or anything customer-facing), a one-trip container is worth it. For general storage on a budget, a wind and water tight used container does the job. We will tell you honestly which makes sense for you.
Not in person. Our inventory sits at a private railyard that is not open to the public, and your container is the next one off the stack on delivery day. What we can do is send recent photos of the type you are looking at, so you know what to expect. Ask whoever you are working with. On delivery day the driver checks your actual container over before it leaves and sends you a photo of it.
Conditions
It means the container is sealed against weather and pests. A wind and water tight container is used, with an average age of 15 years. Expect dents, dings and surface rust, and it may have undergone previous repairs, but it has solid floors, functioning doors, and secure latches, and it keeps your belongings dry.
A one-trip container made a single voyage before coming here, so it is basically new. It is the cleanest, best-looking option with minimal wear.
Cargo worthy is a used container that passed inspection and is certified for ocean shipping (it has a CSC plate). Every cargo worthy container is also wind and water tight, but not every WWT container is certified cargo worthy.
Pricing
No. We quote your price with delivery to your ZIP, plus sales tax. The number we give you is the number you pay.
Delivery
We deliver with our own drivers and our own tilt trailer. The driver backs up to your spot, tilts the bed, and the container slides off as the truck pulls forward. Because we handle delivery ourselves, we know the local roads and tight spots.
For a 20ft container we need about a 20ft wide road onto a 10ft wide driveway, and about 75ft from the rear of the container for the truck to pull out. For a 40ft (or two 20fts), about a 30ft wide road onto an 18ft wide driveway, and about 125ft. Not sure your site works? Call and we will talk it through before you commit.
No, a foundation is not required. We recommend 2-inch clean gravel or treated 4×4 timbers, 10ft long, under the container.
Across the St. Louis metro and up to about 180 miles out, in both Missouri and Illinois. The Delivery page lists the areas we serve. If your town is not on it, call and ask.
Projects
Often yes, but it depends on your local zoning and any HOA rules, so check before you order. We are happy to share what we know about local areas.
